Educational Experience

When it comes to English, there are innumerable things that I learned that will help me later in life. These are just a few. I have improved my editing skills through DOL. I have also gained much experience in writing when doing the five-paragraph essays. I also learned how to notice important moments and take notes on them when I did the Lord of the Flies project. This year in English, there were many activities that greatly boosted my skills.

First, DOL has taught me how to edit papers more easily and carefully. For example, I now know which nouns I should capitalize, and which I should not. I also know which helping verbs and such to use in which place, like instead of writing “Antony has went to school,” I know to write “Antony has gone to school.” DOL has generally brought a good effect on my editing skills.

Second, when I did five paragraph essays, my skills in writing improved. I learned how to organize my paper, which is a very important factor, because I did not know how to do this earlier. I also learned how to write strictly by my guidelines and to not keep veering off topic all of the time. Five-paragraph essays really helped me write better and improved my chances of succeeding in high school.

Finally, I gained much experience in taking notes and noticing major events after doing the Lord of the Flies packet. I can now spot major and minor events more easily, whereas I would not have thought of them in such a way before. I also learned to reflect on what I read instead of just taking it as something that will end somehow later. Thus, Lord of the Flies was really helpful in educating me in these skills.

Because I did so many useful activities and projects at Egan which boosted my skills, I will have a greater chance of graduating high school and getting into college. I learned how to edit better through DOL. Five paragraph essays have increased my writing capabilities. Adding to this list, the Lord of the Flies really helped me understand how to evaluate books and take notes better. I was a lucky person to get into such a great school as Egan and hope that many others can experience this incredible school and learn all of the things that I learned.
