Band, My Favorite Subject

If I was to have a choice between all of my seven subjects in school, I would pick band. I have developed my musical presentation skills. I have gained skills in teamwork. I have helped my classmates solve problems. Band has provided me with many valuable attributes.

First, developing presentation skills was an important achievement in band. Since we have many tests and performances, like the Pops Concert, a large amount of time is spent practicing for them. Likewise, in other subjects – English, for example – when there is an upcoming presentation, one usually stands in front of a mirror and practices for a long time. The same can be seen with music: practicing day after day, the Pirates of the Caribbean seemed like an insurmountable song, before we defeated it. Thus, by making students practice so much, presentation abilities skyrocket in band.

Second, teamwork has been a subject I improved in because of band. We musicians have to play many pieces together. If we played all of them our own way, they would not be songs, but only noise. To make the noise into songs, we must work hard together to play them in a synchronized way. By working together to play our songs correctly, we use teamwork.

Finally, Helping my classmates solve problems in music was an important feature. When we practiced Disney Around the World, sometimes my classmates did not understand how to play a certain rhythm. To solve this, Ms. Spector always picked volunteers to demonstrate. This is a risk, because it is possible to make mistakes yourself (screw up). However, I always had my hand in the air because I knew I would help make everyone sound better. Clearly, this class demonstrates a helping society.

I have done many things in this class that helped me advance. Presentation skills were improved. I have a better picture of teamwork. Helping others is a wonderful aspect that one will be remembered for. I have many great subjects, but band is probably the best one.
