Band Portfolio Reflection

Dear Ms Spector,

This year has been utterly amazing in band. I am very happy that I took this elective, because it taught me very many things. It is just too bad that we only go to this school for two years, because I would have liked it very much to stay in this wonderful band class longer. There are, as I said, many reasons for this.

First, I have gained much more of the creativity-based skill. Playing so many different melodies in class has inspired me to write music. However, not only playing has added to this capability. All those techniques and theories that you taught us have too. I have already written many songs. Many of them you have heard. All of them reflect on the time of year they were written in, and each one seems to be better than the previous. That is how this works.

Second, discovery came to me from your class in very large amounts. An example of this is that I have learned how to play two new instruments. A French horn and a contralto clarinet have both contributed to my discovery. I think that this is a very important skill, and it is especially outstanding that I am gaining so much in this field.

Finally, risk-taking has planted deep inside me. When I went to perform a play in Russian school, I was more confident and less nervous then I imagined I would ever be. When I play in front of the class by myself, I gain a lot of skill. This skill is very handy if you want to present things, like I am going to soon in English class.

This year has been one of the best school years I’ve had in all my life, especially in band, all with the help of you. Thanks.

Devoted Student,

Antony Zhukovskiy.
